Data Inquirer
The data inquirer allows you to construct a data set by submitting a query to various sources. Currently, the only supported source is the SDSS catalog. After entering a name, selecting a catalog and inputting a query, the ASCOT server will submit the query and construct a dataset from the response.
Constructing a Query
The data inquirer gadget provides some tools to help you construct a query. If another gadget, like the Google Sky Viewer or the FITS Viewer is active, the boundaries of the viewing window can be read by the data inquirer. If there are multiple gadgets with viewing windows active, the dropdown box below 'viewport bounds' can be used to select which boundaries to use. Clicking the 'SDSS stars' or 'SDSS galaxies' button will immediately construct a sample query to the SDSS catalog which uses those boundaries.
